Rescue at last?
I was pretty over life at the shelter as I told you after only a little while, though I did make the place sparkle and gave it a touch of glamour when I was there of course. It came naturally. But there is only so much even a foxy lady like me can do for a drab and sad old animal shelter. No offence to the wonderful RSPCA and please continue to give generously. Specify disco lights, cocktail collars and mirror balls in your donation (only for the dogs not the cats, who already have far too much bling) if you want to help spunky dogs like me!
One bright spot was the shelter took my photo to put up on their web site, which may further my modelling career later. The hits on their web site went up immensely and the human helpers thought their computer system was under attack from a malicious virus. But it was just my many future fans and admirers checking in.
Word spread like wildfire. Who knows where those photos might lead my incredibly photogenic self? I clearly have the potential for global reach and impact. I shall be sure to acknowledge the shelter when I achieve fame and recognition.
Still it was time to move on, but where and with whom? Do you remember that guy who took my photo in the first post? He actually went to get the human helpers after that. One of them came and had a bit of a discussion about me with the man. After that I was taken to a special pen where the dogs meet the humans.
I liked the look of this man. He seemed kind enough, a bit old perhaps - would he be able to keep up with me? He had another younger human with him, possibly his son, who looked like he could go the distance if the older guy keeled over one day just out of excitement of being in my presence. We need to be practical don't we girls.
I let him pick me up and I had a good sniff, before posing for the camera with my pixy ears up:
The old guy smelt a bit of smoke and time passing, but his embrace was warm and gentle. He looked like he needed a fabulous friend like me to brighten up his life - doesn't everyone? I was only too happy to oblige if it meant getting out of the shelter.
I could also help him with a makeover and possibly some cosmetic surgery. There is only so much blandness a girl can put up with. He would have to lift his dress standards if he seriously expected me to follow him around in public on a lead. New glasses would help too frankly, and some dental work. In fairness to him though, you are never going to look your best when photographed next to a fabulous foxy dog like me.
But at heart I'm a simple, humble little dog (oh yes I am!). The lovely lady didn't have much but she showered me with love and that's all that matters in the end. I thought I could make something out of this human. It was just an intuition but we might be fast friends. He looked like he had been through some recent sadness too, just like me. He reminded of the lovely lady who had raised me from a pup, and she would dearly love me to go to a good home, where I would be safe.
You can't a book by its cover, can you girls. It was very cold that day and he was wearing his old clothes. He seemed sort of a father figure to me, someone you trust. That's a lot better than some flashy young guy who promises you the world but leaves you with half a stale pastry and a hangover in the morning.
So I thought, what the hey? I will go with this human if he will take me. I went back to the pen to pack my designer sun glasses and matching rhinestone collars.
But then he was gone. What is going on I thought. It was a big disappointment. I thought I had totally charmed him, as I do with every human that I meet. What do I do now?
